For Cornelis: just an example of the dynamic range of the E-510. This man was standing in a darker area, while his hands (and the dishes) are in full sun light on a cloudless day around 12:30.
No Photoshop on this one -except for the little mark in the left bottom corner.
I think the result is very good. I even made the shot at ISO 1600 (I just did some indoor shots) without noise reduction.
Olympus E-510, Zuiko Digital 14-42mm f3.5~5.6.

Antique Victorian Nippon Hand Painted Rising Sun Salt Dish/Cellar with Gilt Flower Pattern

This is an antique salt dish/cellar made in Japan between 1890 and 19Ǵ. This is indicated by the Nippon porcelain mark on the bottom. The mark itself indicates it was most likely made by Noritake.

Salt dishes were very popular on the Victorian woman’s dining table as a way to display a flair for the posh!

I’d never been to Chicago before. Nor had I ever had Chicago pizza. Having now tried it, I find it difficult to compare to the New York version. Apples and oranges, really. They’re two entirely different dishes made with similar sets of ingredients. Which may just be the east-coaster in me rationalizing the fact that this stuff is AMAZING.

To cut the dish I used a hot knife [learned my lesson from my first beauty dish when I broke the bowel.

This is a Dutch 18th century Delftware dish from the de Roos factory in the Netherlands. It is located in the UBC Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver, Canada, where its registration number is Cg 2ȴ.

You can’t tell by the picture, but this is an *incredibly* spicy Indian dish made of peppers (we used scotch bonnet, habanero, and thai bird peppers, to name a few). It was something I imagine they serve in hell. I got about two bites in before I started sweating.

Solution: use Lux for more than just the fine things (note: Lux is DeLuxe) and banish dish pan hands
